jenn schiffer, professional grid drawer

Hi! On this site I want to show you how to draw a grid! I don't think it is hard to draw grids, it just takes a lot of focus and patience - which, actually, I guess is hard. When you're done, though, you have a nice setup to draw some analog pixel art.

Here is what a finished grid may look like:

what you need

instructions

  1. using the ruler, draw two straight (and parallel to the edge of the paper) horizontal lines with the pencil.
  2. lightly mark on these lines with pencil where you want the vertical lines to meet and make sure the space between those markings are divisable by the width of your "pixels" (you don't want 1/3 of a pixel on the edges, for example).
  3. use the ruler and pencil to draw two vertical lines through the markings you made in step 1
  4. use the ruler and pencil to connect the markings from one horizontal line to the other
  5. use the ruler and pencil to connect the markings from one vertical line to the other
  6. erase any stray lines or mistakes outside of the finished grid to make it cleaner

And now you're ready to draw whatever analog pixel art you like! Here is something I made:
